Video Rentals

I often wonder what the fate of the local video store will be. After my experience tonight I can finally say who cares and b-bye.

I go in to get my movie, and have to pay $5.29 or so for a "two day rental". How lame is that I can rent a movie online with Itunes or Amazon Unboxed for the same or less and I don't have to have attitude from some kid who can't even count change.

Watch the Electrion in a new way

Ok, I just happened upon a special twitter feed for the 2008 election here.  It is truly an amazing way to watch, in real time, what people are saying about the candidates and the election.  This is addicting!

Debate

How many live bloggers will be at the debate tonight?  Post here -

Loopt.com just got better!

Loopt is one of my favorite apps....This just off their blog - and it is GREAT!

Today we're launching what I think is one of the best features we've ever developed: Loopt Mix.  Loopt is about helping people connect with other people and cool places in the real world, but until now it's been limited to people you already know.  We get requests every day from users who want to use Loopt to meet new people near them -- at a conference, in a bar, or in their neighborhood -- and now they can.

To get Loopt Mix, go to the Apple App Store on your iPhone and search for "Loopt", or follow thislink to take you to the application on iTunes.

Loopt Mix is pretty simple -- you enter as much or as little information as you'd like in a public profile and then start browsing the profiles of other users near you.  You can search for users based on shared interests and community membership.  When you find someone interesting, you can send them an anonymized message through the service via email, not text messaging.  We don't show you the exact location of other users, just approximately how close they are.  And you're always in full control--it's easy to turn the feature off or change your privacy settings.

We’re thrilled to be announcing some community partnerships today and will be adding more in the coming weeks. Loopt Mix is a great way for online communities to help their users connect in the real world.

So next time you’re at a conference and not sure who to talk to, or in a bar and too shy to strike up a conversation, check out Loopt Mix — you’ll be able to find the right people to meet and then do so easily. We think it’s going to be a lot of fun and really helpful.

Iphone 3G Reception trouble?

Ok, we've heard so much about the AT&T cellular service, that we're just tired of it.  I get it.  But take a look at this, in person, in my very hot hands, are two Iphone 3G's, and look at the signal strength between them?  2 bars to full bars?  What gives?

Amazon mp3 on the Google Phone!

Google and T-Mobile Introduce Phone With PC Features - NYTimes.com

Much like Apple has done with the iPhone, Google and T-Mobile plan to offer a store where users can download applications, which they are calling the Android market. Access to Amazon.com’s MP3 store will be preloaded on the device.

NetFlix Player for $100

Yeah, you read that one correctly. Netflix has just released their oft-rumored set-top box, and from the looks of things they have a real stunner on their hands. The new hardware, manufactured by Roku, is a diminutive, fanless box that sports a HDMI and optical outputs alongside the standard component cables. The player is designed to integrate with your home network, and doesn’t have any on-board storage, with all media being streamed by way of your broadband connection. Movie selection and download is executed by way of Netflix’s custom TV interface, navigable by the included Roku remote control. There’s currently a catalog of roughly 10,000 films, with many more planned for the future. The best part, however, is that unlimited streaming is available free of charge for anyone with a Netflix account over $9/month. It doesn’t get much better than that. There are a couple of downsides, including no current support for HD streaming (Netflix is planning on implementing this in the future), limited new release catalog, and no built-in title search.

Thanks boygenius!
